Divorced or Divorcing

Navigating a divorce could be the single largest financial transaction of your life. Yet it comes at a time when emotions run high and are often overwhelming. There is no doubt that divorce is one of the most difficult transitions a woman could face. Although you may be imagining only the worst outcomes, it does not have to be that way.

We have guided many women through both the financial and emotional journey of divorce. Here are some of the things we can do to help:

Pre-Divorce or Divorce In-Process

  • Inventory Assets
  • Organize budget & prepare Financial Statement for Court
  • Outline settlement options and review various scenarios
  • Understand long term implications of decisions made now

Post-Divorce Transition Planning and Assistance

  • Get your Financial House in Order
  • Make Goals & Identify Obstacles
  • Evaluate Housing Options
  • Plan how to handle your settlement
  • Hands-on support for QDROs, IRA transfers, Stock Option and Pension settlement
  • Review your budget, income and tax issues
  • Develop Education plans for your children
  • Implement prudent investment options
  • Perform Insurance Assessment: Health, Life, Property/Casualty, LTC and disability
  • Establishing New Estate & Legacy Plans

We know that women are disproportionately affected by divorce. Often the female partner is what we call the “non-moneyed” spouse. On average a woman sees her standard of living decline by 45% after the split, while the average man sees it go down by only 22%. Many women have given up careers to raise a family only to have that come back to “bite” them when they get divorced later in life

The number of couples divorcing as they approach retirement has grown rapidly and is known as “Gray divorce". Divorce and Retirement is a challenging combination; often more so for the female partner.
